Musical introductions

I am really digging the alt-country album Honeycomb from Frank Black of the alt/punk band The Pixies. Now I haven’t been keeping up with Black Francis lately but I really didn’t expect this sort of thing. I must credit Radio Paradise with the initial introduction.

On the same theme of new music found through eclectic online radio (and KCRW), I am now listening to Laura Veirs and really enjoying it as something different. In particular the Year of the Meteors. She was apparently a geology major – there are some great lines

Slain by your zirconium smile I was slain, by your olivine eyes I was slain.

When we kiss, bears and boulders vibrate through the air.
Gravity is dead you see.
