We went to Muir woods to celebrate the holiday weekend of Amy’s birthday and the Labor day. Had a great time, especially when we left the main path and went up higher away from the crowds.
Some more pictures from california park visits in this album.
We went camping on Ocracoke at the end of May.
Also set up Flickr account (jason.stajich) to link to images, we'll see how well this works.
We went up to the mountains for a weekend of winter camping. And boy was it cold. We took our two dogs for the adventure as well.

We started out at North Mills River in Pisgah National Forest and stayed for $4.50 a night (winter rates).

Even after a pretty cold night in North Mills we decided to head up to higher elevation. First we went to the Folk Art Museum outside of Asheville. Then we headed up to Linville Falls. Unfortunately the campground was closed for the winter, but we weren’t deterred enough to not camp so we hiked down from the road closed sign to the campground to setup camp for the night. We had a fire and made grilled chicken and enjoyed the caramel porter we had lugged down. The next morning it was so cold the water froze in dog’s bowl ten minutes after I had put it out for them and the water in the pump line for our water filter had turned to ice as soon as I was done filling up the bottles. Thank god for the whisperlite!

On Sunday we hiked to the plunge basin of the falls for a nice lunch.
We had lost Molly’s collar during our rescue of another dog this weekend so I went back to search for it. Fortunately I found it.
Not to waste a trip I took some pics of some fungi and the river on a great afternoon.
